To me atleast, the Mirage looks like what it is, a cheap-ass car.

I’d honestly rather have a Corolla or a Yaris, and thats saying something.

Even the price and savings just don’t make it appeal over, lets say, a 2 year old used Hyundai Elantra or something.

Also, I’m pissed that Mitsubishi is getting rid of the Evo, I don’t want to give them any money. I’ll take the Canadian Nissan Micra for cheapest car plz

I want one. I think any shortcomings in fun could be remedied with firmer bushings and removing sound deadening. you don’t need a muffler either.

Your gf will love you more because you’ll have more spending power for her instead of your oil-burning brotruck or LS1 powered frankendriftmachine

Now you can have your car for life and for your jalop things.

Uh...

Ugh. This is 3/4 of a car from 2015... there’s absolutely no reason why you’d buy this over a used Civic, Corolla, Impreza or Golf unless you really needed a warranty (from a company that will be bankrupt in < 5 years) to sleep at night.

and those are both cheap ass cars.

you’d be better served buying a 2004 vintage of either yaris or corolla. same car.

And the poverty-spec Corolla and Yaris don’t look like cheap-ass cars? Take off the rose-tinted Toyota glasses.

If I wanted worry-free transportation, I’d contemplate the Mirage. Much longer warranty, lower price, etc. If you swapped out the car every 4-5 years, the Yaris would probably be a slightly better deal due to a higher residual value, but only ever so slightly. If you go out to about 6 years, the Yaris is worth less relative to the higher initial price than the residual on a Mirage.

The Mirage doesn’t really pretend to be anything other than what it is. Cheap transport in fun colors. Fun of course, being used pretty liberally.

I live in an area where the average household income is lower than the national average. There also happens to be a newish Mitsu dealer nearby. These things are everywhere. The outlander sports are also popular among retirees.

Here's hoping this thing finances a spiritual successor to the GTO(3000GT), at least before Mitsu leaves us.

I’d bet it’s similar to my ‘09 Accent - very basic, unimpressive transportation that is somehow still fun to thrash.

Do they have the Nissan Micra stateside? Because here in Canada you can get a better car with a better, more powerful engine, better build quality and more features for less money.

It comes with your choice of a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed torque converter auto.

to me, the yaris and corolla are cheap ass cars. But they don’t look as cheap as the mirage. The Corolla and Yaris are distinctively boring Toyota. The Mirage looks like a Chinese car sold in south america or something.

One thing I’ll give the new Mirage: Nobody can stick a wing on the back and claim that it’s “got the Evo conversion.”

Glad that people are finally coming around to this little guy. I think it’s the only honest econobox on the road.

I’ve driven one. Never in my life before have I ever driven a car that literally BEGGED you to pull over to the side of the road, shut it off, get out, and start walking. When I started reading all of the reviews lambasting this car, I had to try it for myself. Every one of them are spot on. The one I had, had the CVT in it. It wailed like a calf being branded on the hills under acceleration. Vibrated so bad at idle that I wondered if it was misfiring. I have to wonder if they used the old Citroen 2CV as inspiration for the suspension it wallowed so bad on turns. The dealer didn’t even attempt to try to sell the car to me after he saw the look on my face as I handed him the keys at the end of the drive. He could clearly see my impression of the car. I owned a Chevy Spark at the time when I test drove the Mirage. The Spark is exponentially better than the Mirage, and the Spark is no shining example of automotive perfection.

Good friend of mine just bought one of these actually. To be honest, used cars are more my thing. I’m driving a BMW x5 for half of what she paid for the car. With a 3.0 inline engine its not bad in terms of reliability as well. However, for someone not into cars I can see this as being nice and affordable. Seems like this is the car that we just like to hate even though it may be good. I would rather see these than Corollas though any single day of the week.

I drove a Yaris hatchback for 4 years, and although reliable and excellent at the pump, it’s a cheap ass car. Due to not having keyless remote and having constantly freezing locks, I oftentimes had to climb into the car via the hatch, which I couldn’t lock because it would also freeze below 30 degrees. I had to leave the doors unlocked most winter days and would stick electrical tape on the orange “not locked” signal on the inside door handle so that people wouldn’t just waltz into my car and steal it. That’s if they could even see in the windows, which always froze from the inside, necessitating that I scrape ice off of the inside of the windows on a regular basis. The Yaris is a cheap ass car, particularly in the winter in the Northeast/Midwest. I could write a book about the cheapness.
